Green tea generally needs a lower temperature to preserve its vegetal character and reduce bitterness, while black tea can withstand higher temperatures that help reveal its body and depth. Oolong tea varies according to its level of oxidation and roasting and may require a medium or higher temperature depending on the type. Steeping time does not determine strength alone; extending it may deepen the colour, but it can also release bitterness that overwhelms the aroma and natural layers of flavour.
